Phil Tetlow Dip.A.D. (hons) A.T.C.
Born in Ashton-under-lyne I Studied fine art at Sheffield and Brighton Colleges of Art before teaching in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Now retired and living in Louth I paint a wide variety of subject matter. Most of my recent work is using acrylics on canvas as this suits the effects I seek to achieve.
The common theme in my landscape paintings is light and its effect on the world we live in, rural scenes, buildings, people, water. I love the huge open skies of Lincolnshire and sudden seasonal changes. I try to capture that instant play of light on the scene, the contrasting tones, the dapples and reflections. I often start with a dark canvas and work to light tone on tone until the finished painting emerges. I am one of the generation of painters trained in the traditional way and acknowledge the influence of Paul Henry, Alfred Munnings and the impressionists.
Portraits are usually commissions and are becoming an increasingly important part of my sales.
The aviation work shows my interest in military history, as a volunteer guide with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight I have direct access to historic aircraft and a wealth of source material and my work is always well researched and often accurately portrays actual incidents.
I have exhibited in various parts of Britain including the Sam Scorer Gallery in Lincoln, The Mall Gallery in London, The Flitch Gallery in Great Dunmow plus many other galleries and outlets.
I will always welcome commissions. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your ideas.
